Mumbai Metro’s elevated lines 2A and 7 have achieved a major milestone recording ridership of 100 million passengers since their launch in 2022, as reported by Maha Mumbai Metro Operation Corporation Ltd (MMMOCL).
The operation and maintenance of the two metro lines are managed by MMMOCL which is an arm of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA). The construction of the elevated corridors was done under the supervision of MMRDA.
The announcement of the achievement was made on social media by MMRDA chief Sanjay Mukherjee. In his social media account on X, he wrote, “Proud day for MMRDA, MMMOCL records a total ridership of 100 million on Metro lines 2A and 7! A million thanks to the Mumbaikars for selecting the Metro as a medium of transport. My congratulations to the team.’’
Mumbai Metro Line 2A and 7
The metro lines 2A and 7 span is spread over a total of 35 km and is available for 257 trips daily. Commuters can avail of the services from 5:55 am to 11:00 pm. The line links Dahisar to Andheri through the western and eastern suburbs of Mumbai. Western Express Highway and Link Road have been utilized under this route. Line 2A is laid over 18.6 km long from Dahisar to DN Nagar in Andheri West. The conveyance duration is about 40 minutes. Line 7 operates from Dahisar East to Gundavali in Andheri East and the transit time is 35 minutes.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the two Mumbai Metro lines in January 2023.
Recently, the Mumbai Metro (MMRCL) is all set to launch Aqua Line’s Phase 1 of Metro 3 soon. As per the Times of India report, it is likely to commence from July 1.
