Kolkata Metro announced on Monday that it has witnessed a significant surge of 38 per cent in its non-fare revenue for April this year.

In a statement, Kolkata Metro highlighted that this achievement positions it as one of the leading railway zones in the country in terms of non-fare revenue generation.

In April 2024, Metro Railway, Kolkata reported non-fare revenue of Rs 2.72 crore, it said, highlighting a significant increase from Rs 1.97 crore recorded during the same period last year.

Revenue generation initiatives

A spokesperson mentioned that Kolkata Metro has been concentrating on revenue generation through various avenues. These include branding of litter bins at stations, displaying advertisements inside and outside trains, installing hoardings in open spaces, and setting up health check-up kiosks at different stations.

Additionally, the spokesperson highlighted that Kolkata Metro has been branding various points such as track sidewalls, card balance checking terminals, and smart card recharge machines. These initiatives have significantly contributed to the increase in non-fare revenue.

Currently, Kolkata Metro operates four lines, including the North-South, two segments of the East-West line, a section of the Joka-Esplanade line, and another section of the New Garia-Bimanbandar line.
