An official announced on Thursday that the progress of the remaining work on the partially operational Orange and Purple lines of the Kolkata Metro was reviewed.

Dinesh Kumar, Additional Member (Land and Amenities) of the Railway Board, conducted the review in a meeting with officials from the Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation Limited (KMRCL) and Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) at Metro Rail Bhavan on Wednesday, according to a spokesperson from Kolkata Metro, PTI reported.

Kumar assessed the progress of land acquisition along the Purple and Orange lines to ensure the timely completion of the remaining work.

The Orange Line is planned to connect New Garia with Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport, passing through Salt Lake and New Town.

Commercial operations on the Kavi Subhash (New Garia) to Hemanta Mukhopadhyay (Ruby Crossing) section of the Orange Line commenced on March 15. The entire Orange Line is expected to be operational by 2026.

Commercial operations have also begun along the Joka-Majerhat stretch of the Purple Line, with ongoing work progressing rapidly on the Majerhat-Esplanade stretch. The spokesperson stated that the goal is to make the entire stretch operational within two to three years, PTI reported.
