In a bid to enhance commuter convenience and streamline ticketing processes, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has partnered with Amazon Pay to introduce mobile-based QR ticketing services. This collaboration aims to provide a swift and contactless ticketing experience for the millions of daily passengers commuting across the national capital.
Seamless Ticket Purchase Process
According to officials, this innovative solution allows commuters to purchase QR tickets directly through the Amazon Pay platform. Users can select their journey’s start and end stations, make payment seamlessly, and instantly receive a mobile QR ticket on their smartphones. At metro stations, passengers can simply scan these QR codes at the automatic fare collection (AFC) gates for both entry and exit, eliminating the need for physical tokens or exact change.
Vikas Kumar, Managing Director of DMRC, highlighted the benefits of this partnership, stating, “Partnering with Amazon Pay for QR ticketing will make daily journeys more efficient and enjoyable. This innovative approach offers convenience, reduces paper waste, and supports our sustainability efforts.”
Anuradha Aggarwal, Director of Amazon Pay India, expressed enthusiasm about the launch of Metro QR ticketing on their platform, aiming to revolutionize commutes for millions. This solution promises fast, contactless transactions, removing the necessity for tokens and exact change, ensuring a smooth experience. DMRC Principal Executive Director Anuj Dayal highlighted the importance of efficient and convenient ticketing solutions, especially with DMRC serving approximately 6.5 million daily passenger journeys.
Dayal highlighted commuter challenges during peak hours, citing long queues and the need for exact change when purchasing tokens, which often leads to inconvenience. He pointed out concerns over losing or forgetting physical tokens.
In response, QR ticketing provides a convenient solution by eliminating the need for physical tokens. This innovation aims to slash ticket purchase time from 15 minutes down to a mere 15 seconds. Furthermore, customers will enjoy exclusive offers on the platform, enhancing their commuting experience.
