The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on Saturday (August 17) announced that all corridors in Phase-4 of the metro expansion will feature Platform Screen Doors (PSDs) to help manage passenger queues and enhance safety.
Elevated stations will have ‘half-height’ PSDs, while underground stations will be equipped with ‘full-height’ doors.
According to the officials, the PSDs for elevated stations will match those on the Pink and Magenta lines of Phase-3. In contrast, the 27 underground stations will have full-height PSDs, standing 2.15 meters tall, across approximately 40 kilometers of the underground corridor.
Currently, the Airport Express Line includes full-height PSDs, while the Pink, Magenta, and six Yellow Line stations feature half-height PSDs.
Efficient crowd management
DMRC Principal Executive Director Anuj Dayal explained that PSDs are crucial for crowd management, as they help passengers queue efficiently.
“The PSDs are installed primarily as a crowd management feature in the stations, as these gates help passengers to queue up properly near the designated door areas. These gates also ensure safer travel for the passenger,” Dayal said.
Phase 4 expansion progressing swiftly
Officials have reported that the Phase 4 expansion project is advancing quickly, with plans to complete three priority corridors totaling 65 kilometers by 2026. Despite beginning in December 2019, progress was hindered from 2020 to 2022 due to the Covid-19 pandemic and delays in tree-cutting permissions.
