In a new initiative, the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has invited input from its passengers regarding potential changes to metro ticket fares. The newly established Fare Fixation Committee of BMRCL has released a notification requesting public feedback on fare revisions, The Indian Express reported.

“Metro Rail Fare Fixation Committee invites suggestions regarding the revision of metro fares. Your cooperation is welcome. Send your suggestions through email at ffc@bmrc.co.in or by Post to The Chairperson, Fare Fixation Committee of BMRCL, Shantinagar. Your feedback/suggestion to be submitted latest by 21.10.2024,” the notice said.

At the moment, the Bengaluru metro charges a minimum of Rs 10 and the maximum going to Rs 60,  with a five per cent discount on the price for smart card users.

The decision to revise the fare is in line with the plans of expansion and increasing operating costs for the projects. This is the first time the committee has decided to revise the rates, a BMRCL spokesperson said. ”Earlier, prices were fixed based on the opening up of operational phases of different lines. Now that Phase 1 is fully operational and Phase 2, Phase 2A and Phase 2 B will be operational in the coming days, the management felt the need to look at a fare revision. However, the process is an elaborate one,” they added.

The committee is tasked with recommending revisions after carefully reviewing the suggestions submitted by the public, the spokesperson added. Following this, the recommendations will be examined and discussed by the BMRCL board. Additionally, the recommendations must be addressed with representatives from both the state and central governments, as well as the finance departments, prior to implementation.
