In a major update, the Bengaluru Metro completed 98 per cent of the tunneling process for the pink line running between Kadugondanahalli and Nagawara stations on Wednesday.

“Tunga Tunnel Boring Machine  had a Breakthrough at Nagawara Stations cut & cover shaft, today after tunnelling 936.6 m,” the Bengaluru Metro said in a post on X. 

A total of eight Tunnel Boring Machines (TBM) named TUNGA were deployed to complete the tunneling work, which is part of the Pink Line’s Reach 6, Phase 2 project, covering a 13.76 km stretch between Kalena Agrahara and Nagawara.

In a statement, Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) announced that tunneling for this segment began on February 3, 2024. With today’s breakthrough, 20,582.7 meters out of the total 20,992 meters of tunneling have been completed, marking 98% of the overall project.

The tunneling sequence from the south of Tannery Road to the north ramp involves the construction of four underground metro stations: Tannery Road, Venkateshpura, Arabic College, and Nagawara. This segment of the project is being managed by ITD Cementation India Limited.
