Wise Travel India (WTi Cabs), the country’s largest operator of Uber Black vehicles, plans to more than double its fleet of premium cars to over 2,000 by the end of 2025, and expand operations to Kolkata, Chennai, and Hyderabad.
“Our fleet size will exceed 2,000 by the end of FY26,” said Ashok Vashist, CEO of WTi Cabs. “We are ramping up to meet rising demand from customers seeking premium travel experiences,” he told FE.
WTi Cabs currently operates around 900 vehicles under the Uber Black category, primarily in Delhi, Mumbai, and Bangalore. The fleet includes both SUVs and sedans, with models such as the Toyota Hyryder and MG ZS EV in all three cities. Analysts estimate the total Uber Black fleet in India stands at around 1,000 to 1,100 vehicles, with WTi Cabs operating nearly 80–90% of them.
A query sent to Uber seeking clarity on the fleet size remained unanswered till the time of going to the press.
“Our expertise has always been in premium services since our inception in 2009. We’ve primarily focused on corporate car rentals. Now, through Uber, we’re bringing that premium experience to a wider customer base,” Vashist said.
He added that the demand in the premium segment has grown significantly, especially after the exit of BluSmart from the space, creating a vacuum in the market. “BluSmart helped grow the premium segment. With their closure, we’ve stepped in to meet the growing customer demand. Premiumisation is clearly the trend,” he noted.
The company’s fleet continues to be dominated by CNG-powered Toyota Hyryder vehicles, although it is gradually adding more electric models. “CNG cars are more economical for us, but we’re exploring the EV space as well. We already have some EVs in our fleet,” Vashist said.
The partnership between Uber and WTi combines Uber’s digital ride-hailing platform with WTi’s fleet management capabilities to deliver premium transportation services across key Indian metros. Customers can access the Uber Black service through the standard Uber app.
The company currently operates on a monthly fixed revenue model with a minimum guarantee. However, this is expected to transition in the coming months to the industry-standard model, where vendors retain approximately 80% of the revenue and the platform earns the remaining 20% as a service fee.
Founded in 2009, WTi Cabs operates a tech-enabled mobility platform with over 14,500 cars, serving more than 500 corporate clients across 250 cities and 17 airports in India. The company also has operations in Dubai and uses artificial intelligence and machine learning for fleet optimisation.
