InterGlobe Enterprises ventured into the hospitality space on Wednesday with plans to build 300 hotels within the next five years. The company which also runs IndiGo Airlines announced an expanded partnership with French hospitality company Accor as well as an investment in Indian hotel chain Treebo. Accor currently operates 71 hotels in India with another 40 in the pipeline.
The two companies will reportedly set up a new entity to operate the hotel franchise — which also includes a shared loyalty program with IndiGo Airlines. According to reports, InterGlobe Hotels will be integrated with the upcoming entity to create a single structure that will manage the growth of Accor brands such as Ibis and Mercure within India.
The two companies expect to jointly have 30,000 rooms by 2030. Hotel and IndiGo customers will also be able to use their points interchangeably for bookings as required through a joint loyalty programme.
The two companies will also become the largest shareholders of Treebo as part of the move. The budget hotel chain founded in 2015 by three IIT graduates now manages around 800 hotels across 120 cities. It will lead the Ibis and Mercure expansion plans through a master license agreement and has already signed deals for 10 new Mercure properties in the country. The partnership will also make Accor-Treebo the third largest hospitality player in India.
