Tata Motors subsidiary Jaguar Land Rover said on Monday that it is restarting operations at its manufacturing facilities in a phased manner.
“As the controlled, phased restart of our operations continues, we are taking further steps towards our recovery and the return to manufacture of our world-class vehicles,” a Jaguar Land Rover spokesperson said.
Jaguar Land Rover has been impacted by a powerful cyber attack on August 31 at its factories in the UK as well as facilities in India, Slovakia and China. The cyber attack resulted in a prolonged shutdown, with many reporting cash flow issues and reduced staff hours.
For the past several weeks, JLR has been trying to restore its operations and has reported progress in its efforts. “Today we are informing colleagues, retailers and suppliers that some sections of our manufacturing operations will resume in the coming days”, a JLR spokesperson said in the statement disclosed by Tata Motors.
JLR on security concerns
While there is no definite identification of who was behind the cyber attacks on the company, JLR said that it is working with the authorities and cybersecurity experts to ensure security and safety.
“We continue to work around the clock alongside cybersecurity specialists, the UK Government’s NCSC and law enforcement to ensure our restart is done in a safe and secure manner.’ JLR spokesperson said.
UK govt offers help
After the cyberattack and production and job loss concerns, the UK government has stepped in to help Jaguar Land Rover. The UK government announced a loan guarantee of up to £1.5 billion to help the company secure a loan from banks and protect its supply chain. The guarantee, backed by UK Export Finance, comes under the Department for Business and Trade’s Export Development Guarantee. The company will repay the loan over a five-year period.
