Tata Electronics on Monday announced a strategic partnership with Japanese semiconductor and electronics manufacturer ROHM to assemble and test automotive chips for both Indian and global markets. Under the partnership, the companies will first establish a manufacturing framework for power semiconductors in India.

A couple of weeks ago, Tata Electronics signed a MoU with Intel to explore manufacturing and packaging Intel products at their facilities. With ROHM, Tata Electronics will be assembling and testing their India-designed automotive-grade Nch 100V, 300A Si MOSFET in a TOLL package while targeting mass production by next year. The firms will also be looking at developing high-value packaging technologies in the future.

Tata’s plans to build India’s first semiconductor fab

Tata is already building the country’s first semiconductor fab in Dholera, Gujarat in partnership with PSMC, Taiwan. The other Tata facility coming up in Assam will be an assembly and testing plant. “Through our semiconductor assembly and test facilities, Tata Electronics will deliver chip packaging services to support ROHM in creating products tailored for Indian and global markets.
