NTPC and Andhra Pradesh utilities have signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) for procurement of solar energy from the 250 MW plant — the first phase of the 1,000 MW ultra solar project — being set up by the central PSU in Anantapur district.
The agreement was signed between NTPC, Andhra Pradesh Eastern Power Distribution Company (APEPDCL) and Andhra Pradesh Southern Power Distribution Company (APSPDCL). The EPC contract for phase I of 250 MW will soon be awarded, IJ Kapoor, director (commercial) of NTPC, said. The state discoms have fixed the procurement price at Rs 6.14 per unit for a period of 25 years.
“Power generation cost may further come down with regard to the remaining 750 MW capacity as that portion of the project would be undertaken through global bidding unlike in the first phase where only domestic vendors were involved,’’ he said. The PSU had signed an MoU with the AP government for the development of the 1,000 MW project.
