National Stock Exchange appointed Srinivas Inteji as the Chairperson of the Governing Board on September 9. His appointment will be effective immediately, NSE said in a press statement.
Market regulator, Securities and Exchange Board of India, has also approved the appointment of Inteji. Last week, he was appointed as a Public Interest Director by the National Stock Exchange.
Who is Srinivas Inteji
Srinivas Injeti is a retired IAS officer of the 1983 batch. He has over four decades of leadership experience in corporate regulation, financial services, governance, and public policy.
He was the founding Chairperson of the International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA) and served from 2020 to 2023. He established the country’s first international financial regulator and promoted initiatives in global banking, FinTech, sustainable finance, the funds ecosystem, GCC and other related services.
He served as Union Secretary in the Ministry of Corporate Affairs from 2017 to 2020, where he led reforms in insolvency law, competition law, and company law. He was responsible for establishing the NFRA and the Independent Directors’ databank, which led to strengthening corporate governance, as well as the CSR regulatory framework.
Before that, Inteji was Union Sports Secretary and Director General of the Sports Authority of India. He is regarded as the brain behind the Khelo India programme and overhauling India’s sports governance framework.
Injeti has also served on the Boards of SEBI, LIC, and state public sector companies
Srinivas Inteji’s educational background
Inteji completed his bachelor’s degree in economics at Shri Ram College of Commerce, University of Delhi. He pursued an MBA from Strathclyde Graduate Business School, United Kingdom.
Inteji’s educational background in economics and finance, combined with his long career in finance, including roles like Secretary in the Ministry of Corporate Affairs and serving on boards of the likes of SEBI and LIC, make him an excellent candidate for Chairperson of the prestigious National Stock Exchange.
