Industrialist Sunjay Kapur passed away in June after suffering a heart attack while playing polo in London — plunging several members of his family into an inheritance dispute. The high-stakes battle over his Rs 30,000 crore legacy escalated last week after his mother Rani Kapur insisted that she was the legal heir and accused unnamed individuals of trying to take control of the family legacy. Speculative reports had also linked his ex-wife — actor Karisma Kapoor — to the ongoing tussle.

According to an ETimes report, the actor is not involved in property-related matters and does not plan to seek any share of the estate. Sources also told the publication that their children — Samaira and Kiaan — were the ‘rightful heirs to their father’s estate.

“Karisma Kapoor is not involved in any inheritance or property-related matters. She has no claim, nor is she seeking any share in the estate. Her only concern is the well-being and future of her children. The children will receive what is due to them. Karisma’s focus remains entirely on them,” a source close to the family told the publication.

Sunjay Kapur — Divorce and remarriage

The late chairman of Sona Comstar had married actor Karisma Kapoor in 2003 — welcoming their daughter Samaira in 2005 and son Kiaan in 2011. Karisma and Sunjay eventually filed for divorce by mutual consent in 2014 with the matter becoming finalised two years later. Sunjay Kapur later married Priya Sachdev (currently the non-executive director at Sona Comstar and director at Aureus Investment) in 2017. The couple welcomed their son Azarias in December 2018.

Rani Kapur alleges coercion, questions circumstances of son’s death

The mother of late billionaire industrialist Sunjay Kapur issued a startling statement last week — alleging that the incident was being mislabeled as a cardiac arrest. Rani Kapur claimed that the actual facts pointed to something “far more troubling” without divulging additional details. Kapur also claimed that she was coerced into signing certain documents under distress soon after the death of her son.

“For my client, as a mother, it’s deeply painful to watch this being dismissed as a mere freak accident and cardiac arrest. The truth doesn’t match the headlines. She would not stay silent until that truth is acknowledged,” her legal counsel added.
