IT major Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has clarified in a statement that all candidates who have received offer letters will be onboarded and that the company is in regular touch with them.

“Everyone who has received an offer from TCS will be onboarded. The joining dates are decided as per business demand and, in some cases, they may be adjusted to meet our business needs. We remain in continuous touch with all candidates in these cases and look forward to them joining our company soon,” the company said in a statement.

Media reports claim over 600 experienced professionals face indefinite delay

The clarification comes in response to media reports claiming that the joining of over 600 experienced professionals who had already received offer letters from TCS has been put on hold indefinitely, without any revised timelines being shared.

The Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES) has written to Union Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, urging immediate intervention in the matter. The letter, dated July 22, highlights the serious impact of this uncertainty on the financial and mental health of the affected professionals.

According to the media report, several candidates arrived at TCS on their scheduled joining dates, only to be told that the onboarding had been postponed indefinitely. Since then, they have not received any updates or revised timelines.

NITES, a workers’ union representing IT and ITES employees in India, has urged the ministry to ensure that TCS provides an official, time-bound commitment regarding the onboarding of the affected lateral hires. The union has also sought compensation for the duration of the delay and requested the company to explore alternative suitable positions for these professionals.

TCS faces backlash over new bench policy

The development comes at a time when TCS is also facing criticism over its new bench policy. As per recent employee complaints, the company has introduced a rule requiring employees without active project assignments to find new roles within 35 days or face termination.

However, TCS in its statement said, “We can confirm that, as always, TCS is committed to honouring all offers we have made, whether to freshers or experienced professionals.”
