FMCG major Britannia Industries has evinced interest in setting up an agro-processing facility in Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh, according to a statement by the AP government. Britannia managing director Varun Berry called on CM N Chandrababu Naidu in Vijayawada.

Berry said the company is planning to commission the first phase of the project in Chittoor district with an investment of Rs 125 crore by the end of 2016.

“We want to zero in on a location which helps us serve markets in Chennai and Bengaluru,” he said.

Britannia’s 75% of business comes from the biscuits segment with the rest comprising dairy products.

Naidu, on plans for the state, said, “We are focusing on agriculture and allied activities like horticulture, livestock, fisheries, dairy and poultry whose estimated growth rate for 2015-16 is 24% with Rs 1.87 lakh-crore against Rs 1.43 lakh-crore in 2014-15.”
