ACME Solar Holdings has won NHPC’s tender for two standalone Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects in Andhra Pradesh. The projects, with a combined capacity of 275 MW / 550 MWh, are located in Kuppam and Ghani.

At Kuppam, ACME Solar secured the bid at a tariff of Rs 2.1 lakh per MW per month for a 50 MW / 100 MWh project. For the Ghani project, the winning bid was Rs 2.22 lakh per MW per month for a 225 MW / 450 MWh project.

ACME Solar enters standalone battery storage market

As part of the contract, ACME Solar must ensure that the BESS systems operate for two full cycles of two hours each every day. To support the project financially, the company will receive viability gap funding, a financial support provided by the government, of Rs 27 lakh per MWh or 30 per cent of the total project cost—whichever is lower.

This project marks ACME Solar’s first foray into standalone battery storage, expanding its portfolio beyond solar, wind, FDRE and hybrid energy solutions.

The NHPC had floated the tender in February 2025 as part of its plan to enhance energy storage capacity in Andhra Pradesh and improve grid stability.
