Siemens Healthineers, a key provider of healthcare equipment, solutions and services, is working towards improving the healthcare infrastructure in India. In an interaction with Financial Express.com, Dr. Bernd Montag, CEO of Siemens Healthineers revealed that the company is focusing on improving access to radiation therapies in the country.

He also informed the company is also focusing in creating an ecosystem with like-minded partners in the industry.

“So we’ve been quite successful in identifying and working with partners to build that ecosystem. Rest of the technologies as we move along, we’re confident to build that we’ve been discussing it with others too, but overall, I would say we are working with them and building this ecosystem and it will take a while given the fact that the scale one mentioned, but yes, we are doing that,” Dr. Montag told Financial Express.com.

On rise of chronic diseases, Dr. Montag revealed that there is momentum and it is contributing to the growth of Siemens Healthineers.

“…there is a growing population and aging population. And it’s a good thing that we have a rise in non-communicable disease burden because it means we don’t have the infectious disease burden anymore and the industry is focusing on it,” he told Financial Express.com.

On upcoming plans for the India market, Hariharan Subramanian, MD of Siemens Healthcare Pvt Ltd said that they are working towards improving the healthcare infrastructure and accessibility.

“…we are working with various providers…working on the access to care. The facilities are not available equally…in some sense concentrated in few districts, though, during the pandemic, the adoption of some of the technologies did help. We are working with the ecosystems and plan to work with the government, in terms of unique technology that we are bringing in, including the MRT system, and how we can build that amazing infrastructure in remote districts. So that plan is coming along well, we already are working with some districts and we are looking how we can bring in our unique technologies, a slightly highly integrated MRI system,” Subramanian told Financial Express.com.

He also said the they are working on improving access to their technologies, especially in the remote parts of the country.

“…So we have had good progress in the last few months with some of the districts…we did have some discussion with the government officials that building the infrastructure for imaging for screening, that’s very important. So from that plan, we want to bring unique innovations to districts that don’t have access to those infrastructures. So that is a big focus for us. And we will continue to drive. Some of them could be partnerships,” he told Financial Express.com.

On merger and expansion plans, Dr. Montag revealed that they are exploring but it is not a target at the moment.

“…we have our eyes open when it comes to what fits our strategy into our strength. And our strategy. I mean, as I said, it’s about how can we use technologies that we have, our strength in imaging and diagnostics and then in therapy delivery, to help elevate the system. Our acquisition of Varian is a very good example because it showed bringing together the therapy with the imaging and making the therapy better, maybe also making the company more complete,” he told Financial Express.com.

On Tuesday, the company announced that the Multix Impact E digital radiography X-ray machine will now be manufactured in India. According to the company, Multix Impact E offers all the latest essentials for intuitive system operation, low-dose quality imaging, and confident reading.
