Dr. Morepen enters wellness segment with weight management solution, focuses on India market

Dr Morepen, a fully-owned subsidiary of Morepen Laboratories Limited, on Tuesday announced the launch of LightLife, a wellness product to manage obesity. During a press conference, held in Delhi today, the leadership of the company claimed that LightLife takes a scientific approach to weight loss, leveraging globally sourced prebiotics from the UK, probiotics from Belgium, and dietary fiber.

According to the company, these ingredients aim to enhance gut health, reduce cravings, and promote satiety, addressing critical aspects of weight management beyond traditional calorie-counting methods or restrictive diets. This launch marks the company’s entry into the wellness segment.

On the objective of the move, Varun Suri, CEO, Dr. Morepen told Financial Express.com: “We are a big country…We have challenges…If we keep looking at short terms or short term gains, it will not work. So we looked at things which are more long term. We’re a pharma company. We have R&D. So we are always looking for something scientific, and we are always looking for a need. There’s no point selling something if it is not long term. So, it’s always consumer first, business second.”

Priced at Rs.599, the product is targeted at health-conscious individuals aged 25 to 50, particularly in Tier-I and Tier-II cities. Available in five flavors—Fruit Punch, Litchi, Lemon, Green Apple, and Orange—LightLife aims to provide a sustainable weight management solution by focusing on gut health, the company said in its press statement.

According to the World Obesity Atlas 2024, over 25 percent of Indian adults are projected to face obesity by 2035. Dr Morepen’s latest offering comes at a time when India’s weight management market is valued at Rs. 12,000 crore and growing at an annual rate of 16 percent.

With obesity rates currently affecting 24 percent of women and 23% of men in India, as per NFHS-5 data, LightLife also addresses associated risks such as diabetes and cardiovascular disorders. The product is now available online and in select retail outlets.

Suri also told Financial Express.com that there needs to be long term effort and it is has to be sustainable to tackle obesity.

“…you know, for diabetes, there are so many drugs out there. But diabetes For heart disease, there are so many statins. Obesity, there are a lot of things. So problems of our metabolic, diseases, our lifestyle diseases are increasing because we are not giving a complete solution. So that’s the whole aim, to give a complete solution, and I think the results are bound to come. So with complete solution, and I think results are bound to come. So, with LightLife there are personalized services and products to take care of both the challenges during the day like fitness or small things like sleep, meditation, yoga, or be it your tracking of your meal. The diet plans are all natural. People need to be educated. People need to be involved. Every problem is different,” he explained.

He also said that Slimbiome is present in many countries and it is one of the ingredients in this product.

“Slim Biome is patented, award winning, clinically tested, and the probiotics which we are adding is again patented, proven, and exclusive to Dr. Morepen. So both the things are great products to, give you the results, and, of course, they’re scientifically proven.
