COVID-19 Variant: The Centre issued guidelines on Monday after the sudden surge of COVID-19 variant cases in Southern states of India. While some states see an uptick in viral infection cases, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has said that his government has implemented guidelines that were issued by the Centre.

On Monday night, Mr. Yadav paid a visit to Hamidia Hospital in Bhopal, the largest state government hospital, to assess the current situation.

Addressing reporters following his tour of the medical facility, Mr Yadav stated that the health department is operating at full capacity, addressing both COVID-19 and other illnesses.

Highlighting their adherence to the Centre’s guidelines on the new COVID-19 variant, Mr Yadav emphasized that the recommended measures have been implemented across the entire state.

Mr Yadav also credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership for the country’s previous success in overcoming the pandemic.

During his hospital visit, the Chief Minister engaged with patients’ attendants.

The Centre recently urged states and Union Territories to remain vigilant due to the increased COVID-19 cases and the detection of the JN.1 variant in the country.

The first case of the JN.1 sub-variant in India was found in Kerala on December 8. Previously, an individual from Tamil Nadu’s Tiruchirappalli district tested positive for the JN.1 variant in Singapore.

In a communication to states and Union Territories, Union Health Secretary Sudhansh Pant emphasized, “Our coordinated efforts have kept COVID-19 rates consistently low. However, it’s crucial to maintain momentum given the virus’s circulation and evolving behavior in Indian conditions.”

Mr Pant highlighted a marginal rise in COVID-19 cases in certain states like Kerala in recent times.
