IT services company Persistent Systems said it’s intensifying its focus on generative AI (GenAI), responding to a surge in interest from major customers exploring new AI applications. Ayon Banerjee, chief strategy and growth officer at Persistent Systems, told FE that nearly all of their “significant” clients are now discussing GenAI implementations with the company.

“Practically every single customer is talking to us today about different use cases, different POCs on the back of AI and or GenAI,” Banerjee stated, highlighting the widespread corporate shift towards this advanced technology.

To capitalise on this momentum, Persistent Systems has established a dedicated GenAI group. This initiative aims to spearhead the development and application of GenAI technologies, ensuring the company maintains its competitive edge.

“We are constantly in front of customers, helping them really ascertain which use cases to work on,” said Banerjee. This proactive approach is designed to tailor AI solutions that are closely aligned with client needs and industry trends.

The integration of GenAI is rapidly becoming a significant component of Persistent’s business strategy. Providing an example of how this technology is already transforming customer operations, Banerjee said, “A NEO bank in the UK wanted to launch a new loans product. This app was infused with AI and generative AI.”

Persistent Systems is also actively experimenting with diverse commercial arrangements to enhance how they capitalise on AI technologies. These models include outcome-driven projects, results-oriented packages, managed services, and traditional time-and-material contracts. “We are obviously starting to see, you know, clients also coming and asking to put in our skin in the game in terms of driving outcome and impact,” Banerjee said.

Despite the potential of AI to streamline operations, there is an ongoing concern about its impact on employment. Banerjee acknowledged these fears, noting, “Yes, there will be many things that humans do today will be done by AI.” However, he also pointed out that AI would generate new roles and enhance job functions, thus mitigating the negative impact on employment.

The company is also heavily investing in training its workforce to handle the demands of GenAI. Banerjee shared that more than 70% of their talent base has undergone training in AI-driven development and related technologies. “Our talent base is trained on our unique set of AI-driven custom software development and custom software development tools, IP and accelerators,” he said, emphasising the company’s commitment to empowering its employees with cutting-edge skills.
