IT services major Wipro has successfully completed over 2,000 client proofs of concept (POCs) in artificial intelligence (AI), with an additional 300 underway, Sanjeev Jain, chief operating officer at Wipro told FE.
“Wipro has made significant progress in identifying potential applications across all sectors we engage with,” he said. “These achievements span various outcomes, including improved healthcare results, optimized contact center efficiency, increased productivity for financial advisors, content generation, engineering documentation summarization, and many more,” he added.
Jain was appointed as the new COO of Wipro in May after his predecessor Amit Choudhary resigned. Jain had joined the IT company in 2023 as the global head of business operations.
The AI initiatives at Wipro have not only streamlined its client services but also internally optimized its operations. Jain said the company has expanded its AI use cases by 65%, increased proof of concepts (POCs) by 140%, and mounted industry-specific AI-led solutions by 40%.
“We have high impact use cases focused around supply and demand forecasting, bench optimization, in-time fulfilment etc,” Jain said… “The power of the talent intelligence platform allows Wipro team to base their project staffing on available employee skills, increasing internal mobility, and upskilling its entire workforce,” he added.
Additionally, the Bengaluru-headquartered company is using AI in human resources department to enhance hiring outcomes and to verify candidates background.
“In the sales domain, the pre-sales process has been significantly enhanced, leading to faster deal closures and increased client satisfaction. Moreover, our marketing division has experienced a boost in productivity for content generation, thereby enhancing our marketing strategies,” Jain said.
TALENT SPACE
When asked if AI development will impact the existing jobs, Jain said that AI will work alongside humans, which will not just lead to a growth in the business but also allow employees to focus on strategic actions. He further said that Wipro is adopting to the evolving talent marketspace by creating new positions like “Prompt Engineer and AI Practitioner”.
“The talent marketplace is evolving rapidly due to changing skill requirements, with Gen AI enhancing productivity in various fields… AI will work alongside humans, leading to business growth and allowing employees to focus on strategic actions. Future professionals will need to develop strong business, domain, and leadership skills to succeed in this AI-driven landscape,” Jain said.
THE NEW COO’s PRIORITIES
Jain emphasized that his focus will remain on the company’s performance optimization through margin expansion and revenue growth, while managing business continuity and strengthening risk and compliance, and investment in democratizing careers and enabling role rotations.
On the innovation front, Jain said the company is investing in AI through the ai360 initiative, which involves a $1 billion investment to integrate AI into every tool and solution the company offers. Wipro is also expanding its AI capabilities with new developments in its R&D arm, Lab45, and by upskilling its workforce for an AI-driven era.
Jain also addressed enhancements in delivery management, leveraging AI for analytics, and improving customer satisfaction through client-centricity initiatives. In terms of talent development, he noted that Wipro has trained over 225,000 employees on AI fundamentals, while more than 30,000 employees have been trained on more advanced levels of AI.
