Riot Platforms, a Bitcoin (BTC) mining firm, and Texas Blockchain Council (TBC) have been granted a beneficial ruling, on account of a lawsuit in oposition to many US energy officials, by a United States District judge, as stated by Cointelegraph.

According to Cointelegraph, TBC and Riot Platforms claimed that Office of Management and Budget (OMB), US Department of Energy, Energy Information Administration (EIA), along with their concerned authorities, pursued cryptocurrency miners for invasive data collection. From what it’s understood, a February 23 filing in the US District Court for the Western District of Texas mentioned Riot Platforms and TBC persuading the judge for a temporary restraining order (TRO) against additional data collection over permanent damage possibilities.

Based on Cointelegraph’s data, the court handed over a TRO judgement to prevent EIA from the crypto miners’ requisite to answer questions related to the study, along with restricting EIA from any data sharing that has already been gained from the study. “The Court finds that Plaintiffs have shown through a verified complaint and supporting evidence that immediate and irreparable injury, loss, or damage will result if a TRO is not issued,” the TRO mentioned. It’s believed that Riot Platforms and TBO made the point that likely damages include irretrievable compliance expenses with the study, prosecution possibilities over non compliance, and unveiling of requested proprietary data.

Moreover, Cointelegraph noted that despite there being no difference of opinion over miners completing the study, without compensation, EIA predicted that a half an hour worth of completion time which was deemed by the court as “extremely inaccurate”. Reportedly, the given evidence informed the court on the likelihood of Riot Platforms and TBC to win the lawsuit. “[The] Plaintiffs also demonstrate that they are likely to succeed on the merits. The survey was proposed and approved under an emergency provision of the PRA,” the filing highlighted.
