According to Cointelegraph, the Indian government issued an advisory to technology companies developing new artificial intelligence (AI) tools. The advisory is expected to mention that the tech companies  need to get approval from the government before releasing any AI product.

The approval needs to be granted before the public release of AI tools that are “unreliable” or still in a trial phase, and such tools should be labeled for possibly providing inaccurate answers to queries, as per insights from the advisory released by the Indian IT ministry on March 1, 2024.

“Availability to the users on Indian Internet must be done so with explicit permission of the Government of India,” the ministry explained.

Furthermore, the advisory mentioned that platforms should see that their tools will not “threaten the integrity of the electoral process”. The precaution is taken for the upcoming general elections this summer, concluded Cointelegraph.
