Embraer’s E190-E2 and E195-E2 have recently received type certification from the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS), signifying a significant milestone in the aviation industry. These aircraft are recognized for their distinction as the world’s quietest and most fuel-efficient single-aisle planes. Scoot, the low-cost subsidiary of Singapore Airlines, is poised to integrate the E190-E2 into its operations starting in 2024.
The certification process for the E190-E2 and E195-E2 was a comprehensive international effort, involving key civil aviation authorities such as the FAA (USA), EASA (Europe), and ANAC (Brazil). This recognition reinforces the aircraft’s compliance with rigorous safety and operational standards. Raul Villaron, Vice President and Head of Region, Asia Pacific, Embraer Commercial Aviation, highlighted the achievement as a significant step toward the E190-E2 joining Scoot’s fleet in 2024.
Leslie Thng, Scoot’s Chief Executive Officer, emphasized the importance of this certification in furthering the airline’s commitment to operating a modern and fuel-efficient fleet. As the first Singaporean carrier to operate the E2s, Scoot aims to enhance connectivity in Asia, contributing to the continued development of Singapore as a hub for regional travel.
The E190-E2 and E195-E2 stand out not only for their advanced features but also for the meticulous design process. Drawing on 20 million hours of experience from the first generation of E-Jets, these aircraft balance modernity and advancement with the reliability and maturity of their predecessors. The first-generation E-Jets have been notably successful, with over 80 airlines in 50 countries operating them.
In addition to the certification achievement, Embraer and CAE have announced the establishment of a state-of-the-art E2 full flight simulator and pilot training program in Singapore. This facility, set to commence operations by the end of the year, underscores the commitment to advancing aviation training capabilities in the region. The full flight simulator will be based at the Singapore-CAE Flight Training Centre, located at the SIA Training Centre, offering comprehensive training opportunities for pilots handling these innovative aircraft.
