In response to the plight of Indians seeking release from the Russian Army, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has intensified efforts to aid those stranded.

Confirming that around 20 individuals remain trapped in Russia, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal assured the public of the government’s unwavering commitment to facilitating their prompt discharge. Emphasizing caution among Indians in Russia, Jaiswal advised against entering conflict zones or getting involved in risky situations.

“Continuous communication channels have been established with Russian authorities in both New Delhi and Moscow to effectively address these issues,” stated Jaiswal.

This proactive stance follows the MEA’s recent announcement of actively pursuing cases of Indians seeking early discharge from the Russian Army, resulting in the successful release of several individuals.

The ministry’s response was triggered by media reports indicating that some Indians, serving as support personnel for the Russian Army in Ukraine’s conflict zone, were being coerced into combat alongside Russian soldiers. In a bid to counter inaccurate media claims, the MEA issued an official statement reaffirming its commitment to addressing every reported case. They highlighted the vigorous pursuit of these cases with Russian authorities, resulting in the discharge of numerous Indian nationals.

“We remain dedicated to actively engaging with Russian authorities to facilitate the early discharge of Indian nationals from the Russian army,” reiterated the MEA statement.

Tragically, earlier reports revealed the death of Hemil Mangukiya, a 23-year-old from Surat, in a missile strike in Russia on February 21. Mangukiya, employed as a “helper” in the country, was reportedly deployed to the conflict zone along the Ukraine border.

These developments underscore the significance of diplomatic efforts to safeguard the welfare of Indian citizens abroad. MEA’s proactive approach in addressing these challenges reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of its citizens, particularly those facing adversity in foreign lands.
