The first Indian crew member, Ann Tessa Joseph, from the container vessel MSC Aries, which was seized by Iran, has safely returned to India. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed that Ms. Joseph, a deck cadet from Thrissur, Kerala, landed at Cochin International Airport, where she was received by the Regional Passport Officer.

Following concerted efforts between the Indian Mission in Tehran and the Iranian Government, Ms. Joseph’s return marks a positive development in the situation.

Top Iranian diplomat in New Delhi confirmed to Financial Express Online that: “All Indian nationals onboard MSC Aries are free to return to India. The Indian consulate has got access to them. They are under command of the captain.”

Indian Mission in Tehran remains seized of the matter and is in touch with the remaining 16 Indian crew members of the container vessel. The crew members are in good health and in contact with their family members in India.

Indian Mission is also in touch with the Iranian authorities in ensuring the wellbeing of the remaining crew members of MSC Aries. Earlier, External Affairs Minister, Dr S Jaishankar had spoken to his Iranian counterpart Foreign Minister Amir Abdollahian on the matter.
