To commemorate the Platinum Jubilee of the Zoji La Battle and the Silver Jubilee of Kargil Vijay Diwas, the Indian Army, in collaboration with the Sarhad Foundation, Pune, and the local civil administration, organized a series of marathon events in Dras on June 30, 2024. The marathons served as a tribute to the courage and sacrifice of the Indian Armed Forces during these historic military operations.

The event was inaugurated by GOC Forever in Operations Division and Subedar Major Sanjay Kumar, PVC, in a grand ceremony at the Zoji La War Memorial and Kargil War Memorial in Dras. The runs took place from the icy heights of Zoji La to the battlegrounds of Dras, encompassing a range of distances to accommodate various participants. Five runs were organized: 44 km, 25 km, 10 km, 7.5 km, and 4 km, attracting national and local runners from the Union Territory of Ladakh.



The Sarhad Shauryathon was a celebration of resilience and fortitude, highlighting the strong bond between the Indian Armed Forces and the civilians they protect. Participants were pushed to their limits, creating unforgettable experiences and lasting memories. The event showcased the potential of Dras as a hub for adventure tourism, which could positively impact the local economy and community.


The Sarhad Shauryathon demonstrated the Indian Army’s commitment to fostering community engagement and promoting the region’s development. By bringing together people from various backgrounds, the event emphasized unity and mutual respect, honoring the legacy of bravery and sacrifice associated with the Zoji La Battle and Kargil Vijay Diwas.
