Mayhem Studios, a Bengaluru-based developer of AAA mobile games, announced that it has secured investment from Lumikai, an Indian interactive media and gaming-focused venture fund. Reportedly, Mayhem Studios has been building Underworld Gang Wars (UGW), a AAA battle royale game. It is claimed to integrate Indian culture and aesthetics into the gameplay by featuring Indian locations, characters among other details. “We’re thrilled to join forces with Mayhem as they redefine the battle royale genre with Underworld Gang Wars. Their vision for a truly Indian experience and building world class gaming IPs out of India aligns perfectly with our belief in the potential of India’s video gaming industry to captivate global audiences,” Salone Sehgal, founding general partner, Lumikai, said.
India seems to be a booming market for online gaming. As per the FICCI-EY report, online gaming grew 22% in 2023 and the number of online gamers in India reached 455 million, becoming the second-largest gaming user base globally. It was also mentioned in the report that, there were 100-110 million players who played online games daily in 2023. Amidst this situation, 7.5 million users already registered for UGW, a game which claims to immerse players in a world featuring Indian locations, letting them choose from traditional weaponry as they compete to be the last player standing.
As per the report, Mayhem Studios is claimed to leverage this fresh infusion of capital to scale its operations, accelerate game development, expand its team of talented developers, and enhance technological capabilities. “Lumikai’s investment is a significant endorsement of what Mayhem Studios is building.
