OpenAI, the maker of ChatGPT, is set to air its first-ever television commercial during the Super Bowl, marking the company’s entry into mainstream advertising, according to a report by The Wall Street Journal.

The Super Bowl is one of the most-watched televised events globally, making it a prime advertising opportunity for brands looking to reach a massive audience. The cost of a 30-second ad slot for the 2025 Super Bowl has reportedly reached up to $8 million, an increase from approximately $7 million last year. The 2024 Super Bowl attracted an estimated 210 million viewers.

While OpenAI has not commented on the report, this move aligns with its growing market presence. The company, backed by Microsoft, launched ChatGPT in late 2022 and has since surpassed 300 million weekly active users. In December, OpenAI appointed Kate Rouch as its first chief marketing officer, a sign that it is ramping up its branding efforts.

OpenAI’s Super Bowl ad would put it in direct competition with other tech giants, such as Google, which promoted its AI technology in last year’s Super Bowl. The company is also in discussions to raise up to $40 billion, potentially valuing OpenAI at $300 billion.

The 59th Super Bowl is scheduled to take place on February 9 at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, home to the New Orleans Saints.
