Slumberzone New Zealand, a luxury mattress manufacturer, is set to enter India’s booming $2.5 billion mattress market with an initial investment of Rs 100 crore. The company has announced plans to establish its first manufacturing facility in Hyderabad, aiming to tap into the rising demand for high-quality sleep solutions in the country.
Founded in 2005 by Ranjay Sikka, Slumberzone is New Zealand’s third-largest player in the mattress and sleep accessories segment, with annual sales surpassing Rs 200 crore. The decision to expand into India aligns with the company’s strategy to leverage the country’s strong manufacturing capabilities and growing consumer appetite for premium sleep products.
The Hyderabad unit, expected to be operational by March 2026, will have a production capacity of 1,000 mattresses per day. The company also plans to generate employment opportunities for 200-250 skilled and unskilled workers in the region. The official announcement was made at a special event in New Delhi, attended by New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon. He praised the move, emphasising the growing commercial ties between India and New Zealand. “It is encouraging to see New Zealand manufacturers like Slumberzone expanding into India. This initiative strengthens bilateral trade and supports the vision of ‘Made for India, Made in India,’” Luxon stated.
Slumberzone’s India expansion is also in line with the Indian government’s Make in India initiative, which seeks to position the country as a global manufacturing hub. Ranjay Sikka, Managing Director of Slumberzone NZ, highlighted the company’s ambition to redefine the Indian sleep market. “We are bringing an international product experience to Indian consumers while also establishing Slumberzone as a global brand,” he said.
Vidhul Sikka, chief business officer and Director, Slumberzone India, outlined the company’s long-term vision. “We aim to challenge China’s dominance in the global mattress industry by offering superior-quality products and positioning India as a key export hub,” he stated. Slumberzone’s expansion strategy includes an omnichannel retail model, combining both online and offline sales. Over the next three years, the company plans to open 20 physical retail stores across India while also offering select products through its e-commerce platform.
Looking ahead, Slumberzone has set an ambitious revenue target of $100 million within the next five years. The company also intends to expand into international markets, including North America, Australia, Europe, and the Middle East, further solidifying its presence in the global sleep solutions industry.
