Actor Katrina Kaif has been appointed the global tourism ambassador for the Maldives, according to an announcement made on Tuesday via social media by the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), also known as Visit Maldives.

The MMPRC stated that it was delighted to have Kaif, a well-known figure in the Indian film industry, represent the country as the Global Brand Ambassador. The collaboration is part of a broader initiative to promote the Maldives’ natural beauty, rich marine life, and luxurious travel experiences to international audiences.

Kaif’s appointment closely follows the launch of Visit Maldives’ Summer Sale campaign, aimed at encouraging more travellers to explore the island nation. The campaign highlights exclusive offers across luxury resorts, boutique guesthouses, and high-end accommodations.

The announcement also comes at a significant diplomatic moment, as ties between India and the Maldives have seen a turnaround since tensions arose in January 2024. Meanwhile, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit the Maldives, adding further context to the evolving relationship between the two countries.
