With IPL 2025 on the horizon, conversations surrounding players, teams, and strategies are increasingly dominating online discussions, reflecting cricket’s powerful reach in the digital sphere.
Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma among the key drivers
Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have emerged as key drivers of online cricket conversations. Kohli’s content generated 11 million page views, while Sharma’s generated 7.9 million. These two players contributed to around 9,000 additional visits from over 800 published articles, leading to a 43.5% increase in engagement. Key dates such as 24 December and 3 January saw notable spikes in traffic, driven by player announcements and leadership updates. On these days, cricket-related articles saw an 182% increase in traffic, totalling 157,000 page views.
Multimedia and regional content rising
Multimedia content, including infographics, match highlights, and player statistics, is seeing higher engagement than traditional text-based articles. This trend emphasises the effectiveness of visual storytelling in captivating cricket fans. Additionally, content in regional languages such as Hindi, Tamil, and Bengali is driving significant growth, especially in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities, the report revealed.
