Weekends are all about downtime. After a week full of work to meet deadlines, everybody needs some breather to relax and recuperate. From watching a favourite web series to planning a vacation, weekends are designated as family and me time. Chandan Polekar, CEO, Winn Foods, talks to BrandWagon Online about his weekends, favourite vacation destination and more.
What is one thing you enjoy doing when not working?
When I’m not working, I enjoy spending time with my children. It’s the best way to relax and reconnect as it brings a different kind of joy which work cannot replace.
How do you typically spend your weekends?
My weekends are usually a mix of outdoor adventures and some quiet time. I love going on treks—being out in nature helps me recharge and stay active. I also make time for reading, which lets me pick up new ideas and perspectives.
What are your favourite gadgets?
I’m not much of a gadget person. I appreciate technology, of course, but I’m not one to constantly seek out the latest devices. I like to keep things simple and prefer experiences over gadgets. But, if I had to pick one, I would choose my laptop.
If you had the choice to pursue another career, what would it be?
If I could start over in a different field, I think I’d choose to be an aeronautical engineer. The idea of designing aircraft and exploring the science behind flight has always fascinated me. Something is inspiring about working on machines that connect the world and push the boundaries of human achievement.
What is your favourite vacation spot?
For me, it has to be the South Island of New Zealand, especially trekking through the Southern Alps mountain range. The joy of trekking through the Southern Alps is unmatched; the trails wind through lush valleys, alpine lakes, and stunning snow-capped peaks, creating an experience that’s both peaceful and awe-inspiring. Every hike feels like a journey of discovery, and it’s a place where you can truly disconnect and feel at one with nature.
A TV show, movie, and ad campaign you’d highly recommend?
I would definitely recommend Game of Thrones for its epic storytelling, complex characters, and the immersive world it creates. For movies, Forrest Gump is a must-watch. It’s a heartwarming story that shows life’s highs and lows with humour and wisdom. As for an ad campaign, the Johnnie Walker ‘Keep Walking’ campaign stands out to me. It’s motivational in a very authentic way, reminding us to keep moving forward, no matter what challenges come our way. Each of these, in their own way, is inspiring and powerful.
