Andy Jassy, president and chief executive officer of Amazon, has been named the 2025 Media Person of the Year by the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. The annual honour is awarded to individuals who have significantly shaped the media and creative industries, and this year’s recognition puts the spotlight on Jassy’s role in driving Amazon’s growing influence across media, entertainment, and technology.

Under Jassy’s leadership, Amazon has expanded far beyond its e-commerce roots, becoming a dominant force in areas such as streaming, digital advertising, and cloud infrastructure. Festival organisers noted that this broad and integrated approach to media has helped redefine how audiences consume content and how brands connect with them.

Philip Thomas, Chair of LIONS, highlighted Jassy’s impact in a statement announcing the award. “Cannes Lions has a tradition of celebrating those who transform the media landscape, and this year we are delighted to honour Andy Jassy,” he said. “Amazon has become the world’s largest media platform, not just in terms of scale, but also in how it sets new creative and technological benchmarks. Andy’s leadership has driven that evolution and continues to push boundaries across the industry.”

The Media Person of the Year award places Jassy among an influential group of previous honorees, including YouTube’s Salar Kamangar, Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey, Google’s Eric Schmidt, Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg, and former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer.

Jassy is scheduled to appear at the Debussy Theatre during the festival on June 18 for an on-stage conversation, ahead of the official award presentation later that evening. His appearance is expected to draw a full house, offering insights into Amazon’s vision at the intersection of media, commerce, and innovation.
