The Reserve Bank of India has announced a bank holiday on October 10 for some specific states where the Durga Puja is prevalent and significant. On the occasion of Maha Saptami, several public and private banks will remain closed.
Mahaspatami also known as ‘Kaalratri’ a form of Goddess Durga, symbolizes as the destroyer of ignorance and evil. As per the traditions, devotees try to get the blessings of Maa Durga by getting a holy bath, worshipping and fasting. It is celebrated with great enthusiasm in Bengal, Assam, Odisha and other eastern states.
State-wise list of bank holiday for Dussehra
States including Assam, Nagaland and West Bengal will have a bank holiday on October 10 to commemorate Durga Puja/Dussehra. However, banks in other states will function as usual. Maha Saptami, the seventh day of Durga Puja, marks the starting of grand worship (Maha Puja) and is an important day during the 10 day festival.
The bank branches will remain closed on the holiday for specific states, but banking services such as online banking, UPI, ATMs, websites and mobile applications will function normally, allowing customers to conduct transactions, check balances, and manage their accounts from home or on the go.
Upcoming Bank holidays
October 11 (Maha Ashtami/Mahnavmi/ Ayudha Puja): Banks will remain closed in Tripura, Karnataka, Orissa, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Nagaland, Bihar, Jharkhand and Meghalaya.
October 12 (Dussehra/ Vijay Dashmi): Banks will remain closed in all states, as it is also the second saturday.
October 14 (Durga Puja): Banks will be closed in Gangtok.
October 16 (Lakshmi Puja): Banks will stay shut in Agartala and Kolkata.
October 17 (Maharshi Valmiki Jayanti/Kati Bihu): Banks will be closed in Bengaluru, Guwahati and Shimla.
October 26 (Accession Day): Banks will be shut in Jammu and Srinagar.
October 31 (Diwali (Deepavali)/Kali Puja/Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s Birthday/Naraka Chaturdashi): Banks will remain closed across regions except for Agartala, Belapur, Dehradun, Gangtok, Imphal, Jammu, Mumbai, Nagpur, Shillong and Srinagar.
