Thiruvananthapuram International Airport has reported a record-breaking surge in passenger traffic for the first quarter of fiscal year 2024-25, with more than 1.26 million passengers passing through its gates.
The 21% increase from the same period last year marks a new high for the airport, which now processes over 400,000 passengers monthly. Domestic passengers made up 661,000 of the total, with the remaining 598,000 traveling internationally.
Infrastructure expansion and future plans
TRV has expanded its infrastructure to accommodate growth, including the addition of three new check-in counters at the domestic terminal to streamline the check-in process, according to a statement.
Plans are also in motion to further upgrade facilities, aiming to ensure a seamless travel experience as both passenger numbers and airline operations continue to increase. Managed by Adani Airport Holdings Limited (AAHL), a subsidiary of Adani Enterprises, the airport serves as a flagship facility for the globally diversified Adani Group.
In the first quarter of FY2024-25, there were 7,954 Air Traffic Movements (ATMs), marking a 14 percent increase from the 6,887 ATMs recorded in Q1 of FY2023-24, the statement noted.
Currently, TRV provides services to 13 international destinations, including Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Doha, Dammam, Singapore, Male, Kuala Lumpur, and Colombo, alongside seven domestic destinations: New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kochi, and Kannur.
According to the release, Sharjah was the most frequented international destination, while Bengaluru topped the list for domestic travel.
