SpiceJet has been awarded the rights to operate 100 special flights in 2025 for the Haj pilgrimage from four Indian cities—Kolkata, Guwahati, Srinagar, and Gaya, as per a recent press release. Building on its successful Haj operations in 2024, where the airline carried 13,000 pilgrims, SpiceJet plans to increase its capacity by 18% and transport 15,500 pilgrims in 2025.

“Haj has been a significant revenue generator for SpiceJet, and the airline expects to generate Rs 185 crore from these operations in 2025,” the airline said in a statement.

SpiceJet has been offering dedicated Haj flights annually since 2019. In the previous season, the airline deployed two wide-body Airbus A340 aircraft, each with a capacity of 324 passengers. For 2025, SpiceJet is committed to enhancing its services, ensuring a comfortable and seamless journey for pilgrims.

SpiceJet launched 8 new flights last month

In addition to its Haj operations, SpiceJet has expanded its domestic network, launching eight new flights since November 15, 2024. New routes include connections from Jaipur to Varanasi, Amritsar, and Ahmedabad, as well as a new link between Ahmedabad and Pune. This follows the launch of 32 new flights in October 2024, including two international routes connecting Delhi to Phuket.

Additionally, SpiceJet introduced UDAN flights in October 2024 connecting Shivamogga (Karnataka) with Chennai and Hyderabad and added double-daily flights between Chennai and Kochi, further strengthening regional connectivity.

Haj is a significant annual pilgrimage for Muslims, with Mecca being the holiest city in Islam. The Ministry of Minority Affairs is the nodal body overseeing the Haj pilgrimage in India, which must be undertaken by all capable Muslims at least once in their lifetime, provided they are physically and financially able.
