Domestic carriers may deploy more wide-body aircraft on domestic routes to meet the rising traffic demand, Kishore Jayaraman, India and South Asia region President of Rolls-Royce, told Fe.

“I do believe that more wide-bodies will be required to fly between the cities in India, and not just carry passengers overseas. By accommodating more passengers in a single (wide-body) aircraft, airlines will be able to transport more people efficiently and effectively. Besides, this will reduce air traffic congestion”, he said.

Rolls-Royce is one of leading manufacturer of aeroengines, marine engines, and other power-related products for both civilian and military uses. In the civil aviation sector, the company’s Trent engines power the wide-body Airbus A350 aircraft.

Domestic air passenger traffic grew by 4.4% year-on-year to 13.2 million in May.

At present, Air India operates the wide-body Airbus A350 aircraft on domestic routes for crew familiarisation.
