Mahindra Aerostructures and Aernnova Aerospace have signed a multi-year, $300 million contract for the manufacture of metal sub-assemblies and components for a range of Airbus and Embraer aircraft.
This marks the second major contract awarded to Mahindra Aerostructures in last two months. In April, the company secured a contract to manufacture the fuselage for Airbus’s H130 helicopter.
Spain-based Aernnova specialises in the design, manufacturing, maintenance and services of aerostructures and components such as wings, empennages, fuselages, stabilizers, bulkheads and doors.
Aernnova has worked extensively on the Airbus aircraft family—including the A350 XWB, A220, A320, A330 and A380—as well as the Eurofighter combat jet. It has also collaborated with Boeing on the B747 and B787, in addition to several Embraer jets.
The contract with Mahindra Aerostructures involves supplying Aernnova’s facilities in Spain, the UK, Portugal and Brazil. This agreement further strengthens a decade-long partnership that began in 2013.
Aernnova supported Mahindra Aerostructures (MASPL) during the early stages of its facility development in India, contributing to facility design, infrastructure development and workforce training and assessment.
The relationship deepened in 2020 when Aernnova acquired Hamble Aerostructures (UK), an MASPL customer, from GE. The new Aernnova contract evolved over multiple engagements where both companies studied new opportunities and finalised a collaboration strategy, a joint statement from the companies said.
Anish Shah, group CEO and MD, Mahindra Group, said, “As we scale up our operations and make significant investments in our Aerospace business, we look forward to enhancing this partnership and scale new heights.”
Ricardo Chocarro, CEO of Aernnova, said, “This partnership will enable Aernnova to reinforce its supply base to secure production ramp-ups in our factories for all our programs. Mahindra Aerostructures has the expertise and high-end technology capabilities to industrialize the different packages with the support of our technical experts in the different areas of work.”
Under the Airbus contract signed in April, Mahindra will produce the H130’s main fuselage assembly, which will be shipped to Airbus Helicopters’ facilities in Europe. Industrialisation is set to begin immediately, with the first cabin assembly scheduled for delivery by March 2027.
The H130 is an eight-seat, intermediate, single-engine helicopter designed for various applications, including passenger transport, tourism, private and business aviation, medical airlift, and surveillance missions.
For Airbus, India plays a dual role—as a significant market and a strategic resource hub. Every Airbus commercial aircraft currently in service contains components and technologies made in India. Currently, Airbus’s annual procurement of components and services from India stands at $1.4 billion.
