Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia met with Airbus Global CEO Guillaume Faury on Friday (January 26) with the aim of bolstering India’s position in the global aviation arena. The meeting delved into potential collaborations for the manufacturing and designing of aircraft, signaling a stride towards fostering indigenous capabilities in the aviation sector.
The discussions between Scindia and Faury shed light on the immense potential India holds in becoming a global aircraft manufacturing hub.
India stands out as a pivotal market for Airbus, evident in the substantial orders the company secured in the previous year. With orders surpassing 700 planes from major carriers like IndiGo and Air India, Airbus sees India as a key player in its global growth strategy. Notably, IndiGo, the largest airline in the country, exclusively operates Airbus aircraft, further emphasising the significance of the Indian market.
Scindia and Faury discuss collaboration opportunities
Following the meeting, Jyotiraditya Scindia took to social media platform X to share insights into the discussions. The aviation minister stated, “Guillaume Faury, Global CEO, Airbus today and discussed further opportunities of collaboration for aircraft manufacturing and designing”. The engagement hints at a shared vision for advancing India’s capabilities in the aviation sector through partnerships with global leaders.
India’s growth trajectory and Make In India focus
The aviation minister also underscored India’s status as one of the fastest-growing economies and emphasised the nation’s commitment to the “Make In India” initiative. With a focus on self-reliance and indigenous manufacturing, India envisions itself as a potential global hub for aircraft production. The meeting with Airbus aligns with this vision, as collaborative efforts could propel India into a prominent position in the international aerospace landscape.
