India’s largest airline, IndiGo, is set to broaden its international footprint by adding seven new destinations within the current financial year, as announced by CEO Pieter Elbers on Monday. This expansion is part of the airline’s ongoing strategy to enhance its global network.
Current Operations and Future Plans
IndiGo currently operates over 2,000 flights daily to approximately 120 destinations, including 33 international cities. Earlier this month, the airline revealed plans to launch flights to Jaffna, further expanding its reach. Elbers, speaking at an event in the national capital marking IndiGo’s 18 years of service, emphasized the airline’s ambition to increase its international destinations to over 40 by March 31, 2025.
Fleet and Market Position
IndiGo holds a commanding position in the domestic market with a nearly 61 percent share and has approximately 975 aircraft on order. As of June’s end, the airline’s fleet comprised 382 planes, including 18 on wet lease. Looking ahead, IndiGo plans to integrate A321 XLR aircraft in 2025 and A350 wide-body planes by 2027, further enhancing its global connectivity and capacity.
