The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is investigating a tail strike incident involving an IndiGo aircraft that occurred on September 9. The flight crew involved has been derostered, a senior official of the watchdog said, PTI reported.

IndiGo had said that its A321 aircraft was grounded in Bengaluru post a tail strike. The flight had flown in from Delhi.

“The aircraft is currently under maintenance and will be back in operation post necessary repairs. The incident is under investigation,” the airline said.

A senior official from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) stated that the flight crew has been taken off the roster, and the incident is currently under investigation.

Media reports indicate that the aircraft sustained damage to its tail section after making contact with the runway during takeoff from Delhi airport. Visuals of the damaged tail section reveal multiple white dents on the aircraft’s blue-painted exterior, suggesting a significant tail strike.

According to reports, no one was injured in the incident.

After the strike, the incident was communicated to air traffic control (ATC) by the pilot, who then granted clearance for landing. The aircraft landed safely.
