IndiGo, a low-cost carrier, announced on Friday that it will commence direct flights between Chennai and Durgapur in West Bengal starting May 16.

The airline will offer direct flights between the two cities three times a week, specifically on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, as stated in the airline’s announcement.

What are the timings of the flights?

Flights departing from Chennai for Durgapur will take off at 5:45 am and arrive at 8:25 am.

The return flight will depart from Durgapur at 8:55 am and arrive in Chennai at 11:25 am.

According to the statement, the direct flight to Durgapur will enhance domestic connectivity from Tamil Nadu’s capital city.

IndiGo will now operate 28 weekly flights from Durgapur to major metro cities, including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad, with the inclusion of Chennai.

The new connection will provide travelers from Durgapur with additional options to connect to other domestic and international destinations through Chennai, the statement mentioned.

Chennai, the capital of Tamil Nadu, is often referred to as the ‘Detroit of India’ due to the presence of major automobile manufacturing units and allied industries in the city.

Durgapur, situated in the Paschim Bardhaman district of West Bengal, is an industrial city known for its abundant mineral resources. Home to the Durgapur Steel Plant established in 1957, the city thrives on industrial activity. Located on the banks of the Damodar River, Durgapur is also a center for education and innovation, housing several prestigious colleges and universities, the statement said.
