Major airlines including Air India, IndiGo and SpiceJet have issued travel advisories as dense fog and poor visibility continue to disrupt flight operations across parts of northern and eastern India.  Airlines have warned passengers about possible delays and cancellations at key airports, including Delhi, Chandigarh and Varanasi and have advised travellers to check their flight status before heading to the airport as weather conditions remain challenging.

Air India issued a travel advisory late Wednesday night through its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, warning passengers about possible flight disruptions in the coming days due to dense fog in parts of northern and eastern India. The airline said airports in Delhi and nearby regions could see low visibility, which may affect flight schedules.

“Over the next few days, potential dense fog conditions resulting in poor visibility may impact flight operations at our primary hub in Delhi, and a few airports in northern and eastern India, with a cascading effect in some other cities across our network,” the advisory reads.

Passengers have been asked to check their flight status on Air India’s official website before leaving for the airport, especially as travel increases during the holiday season.

“To help plan your travel better, especially during the holiday season, may we request you to check your flight status before heading to the airport,” it said.

IndiGo issues travel advisory amid dense fog

IndiGo has issued a travel advisory, warning passengers about flight disruptions due to dense fog conditions, particularly in Chandigarh, where visibility has dropped sharply and affected flight operations.

“Due to dense fog in #Chandigarh, visibility has reduced drastically, impacting flight operations. As a precaution, some flights have been cancelled through the day to prioritise safety and help minimise extended waiting at the airport.”

The airline acknowledged the inconvenience caused to passengers and said its teams are working continuously at airports to manage the situation and keep travellers updated as conditions change.

“We understand how inconvenient this can be, especially when travel plans are important. Please be assured that our teams across airports are working continuously to manage operations as smoothly as possible, and keep you informed as the situation evolves.”

SpiceJet issues advisory for Varanasi flights

SpiceJet has also issued a travel advisory, warning passengers about possible disruptions to flights to and from Varanasi due to poor visibility caused by bad weather.

“Due to bad weather (poor visibility) at Varanasi (VNS), all departures/arrivals and their consequential flights might be affected. Passengers are requested to keep a check on their flight status.”
