The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has revealed that Indian airlines are set to operate 25,007 flights weekly to and from 124 airports during the winter schedule beginning October 27. This represents a three percent increase from the current summer schedule, which features 24,275 weekly departures across 125 airports.

Compared to the winter schedule of 2023, the number of flights has risen by 5.37 per cent. The upcoming winter schedule will run from October 27, 2024, to March 29, 2025. 

According to a release from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Thursday, scheduled airlines have proposed operations at Pondicherry Airport, while flights from Pakyong and Tezpur airports will be suspended during the 2024 winter schedule. Overall, there will be 25,007 weekly departures to and from 124 airports in this schedule.

Domestic air passenger traffic

As per the official data, the domestic airlines carried 1.30 crore passengers in September, marking a 6.38 per cent rise as compared to the year-ago period when they carried 1.22 crore passengers.

According to data from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), IndiGo’s market share increased to 63 per cent in September 2024, while Air India’s share rose to 15.1 per cent. AIX Connect, which merged with Air India Express this month, led the airlines in On Time Performance (OTP) at 70.1 per cent, surpassing Akasa Air, whose OTP fell to 62.1 per cent. 

The data also indicated a decline in Vistara’s market share to 10 per cent and AIX Connect’s share to 4.1 per cent last month. Overall, the domestic market share of the Air India Group, which includes Air India, AIX Connect, and Vistara, reached 29.2 per cent.
