The Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (LGBIA) in Guwahati achieved a remarkable milestone in 2024, recording its “highest-ever” international passenger and aircraft movements since the Adani Group took over its commercial operations in October 2021, according to a statement released on Saturday.

The airport also saw an increase in domestic passenger numbers and expanded its domestic route network during the year. The facility managed 6.26 million domestic passengers, alongside more than 85,000 international passengers. Of the domestic passengers, 3.09 million were arrivals, while 3.17 million were departures. Additionally, the airport handled 47,578 international arrivals and 38,528 international departures.

Guwahati airport’s international connectivity

LGBIA operates direct flights to three international destinations—Paro, Malaysia, and Singapore—which have significantly contributed to the rise in international passenger numbers and air traffic movements (ATMs). In 2024, the airport recorded 44,746 domestic and 970 international air traffic movements.

The statement highlighted that LGBIA achieved its “highest-ever international passenger numbers and ATMs since the commencement of commercial operations (October 8, 2021).”

Guwahati airport’s new domestic routes

Further expanding its connectivity, the airport introduced three new domestic routes—Guwahati-Ahmedabad, Guwahati-Durgapur, and Guwahati-Ziro. These new routes are expected to enhance trade, tourism, and cultural exchange in the region.

The Guwahati International Airport Ltd (GIAL) also achieved a significant feat, handling 225 million tonnes of perishable cargo in December 2024, marking one of the “highest-ever” figures for the airport. Overall, GIAL managed a total of 10,089 million tonnes of cargo this year.

Additionally, LGBIA earned ‘Level 2’ status in the Airports Council International (ACI) Airport Customer Experience Accreditation, emphasizing the airport’s dedication to improving customer experiences.

The airport is managed by Adani Airport Holdings Limited (AAHL), a subsidiary of Adani Enterprises, and operates under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) between AAHL and the Airports Authority of India (AAI).
