India and China are discussing ways to strengthen cooperation in the civil aviation sector. The discussions include resumption of direct flights between the two countries.
Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu, Civil Aviation Secretary Vumlunmang Vualnam, and other senior officials held a meeting with Chinese representatives on the sidelines of the Asia Pacific Ministerial Conference on Civil Aviation in the national capital.
Naidu took to X to share the news of his meet up with a Chinese delegation led by Song Zhiyong. The meeting focussed on the countries’ views on furthering the civil aviation cooperation between the nations, he wrote.
Naidu later informed reporters that the Chinese side discussed the possibility of resuming direct flights, but no decision has been made yet. A final decision will be reached after consultations with the Ministry of External Affairs and other stakeholders.
Currently, there are no direct flights between India and China, as services were halted during the COVID-19 pandemic. Previously, IndiGo and Air India operated flights to China.
