Flight operations may be affected at the Delhi airport due to the dense fog today. The Delhi airport has issued an advisory warning passengers about the potential impact on flight operations due to dense fog on Sunday (January 21). The dense fog has been causing disruptions to both rail and air travel, leading to inconvenience for passengers.

In a passenger advisory shared on the official X handle, the airport urged passengers to contact their respective airlines for the latest updates on flight operations. The airport expressed regret for any inconvenience caused by the anticipated weather conditions. The advisory serves as a precautionary measure to keep passengers informed about potential disruptions to their travel plans.

Rail services also hit due to fog

In addition to potential flight delays, an official statement mentioned that 11 Delhi-bound trains from various parts of the country are running behind schedule due to dense fog conditions on Sunday. 

Dense fog in Delhi

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has also weighed in on the situation, predicting dense fog conditions for January 22 and 23 in the National Capital, with foggy conditions persisting on the remaining days. The weather forecast indicates that the temperature will range between 6 degrees Celsius as the minimum and a maximum of 20 degrees Celsius until January 25.

As per the IMD, visibility at Delhi-Palam decreased from 400 meters at 2:00 am to 100 meters at 2:30 am on Sunday, and subsequently dropped to 0 meters since 3:00 am. “Fog layer is very clearly visible over the plains of north India from Punjab to Bihar across Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, northwest Rajasthan, and north Madhya Pradesh at 6:30 am today,” IMD said in a tweet.

“Dense to Very Dense Fog observed in isolated pockets over Delhi, North Haryana, West Uttar Pradesh, West Madhya Pradesh,” the weather department added.
