The National Capital greeted its residents with another cold and brisk morning on Monday (January 22), with temperatures plunging into the single digits. The chilly weather posed challenges for commuters, leading to delays in both flights and trains, causing inconvenience for many.
Several flights were delayed and cancelled in and out of Delhi airport today due to foggy conditions.
Delhi weather update
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the mercury dropped to a minimum of 4.8°C this Sunday, while the maximum temperature saw a dip, reaching 15.8°C.
As per the IMD forecast, dense to very dense fog and cold to severe cold day conditions are anticipated to prevail across North India for the next four to five days. The department has highlighted the likelihood of cold wave to severe cold wave conditions in significant areas encompassing Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Delhi, Rajasthan, Haryana, and North Madhya Pradesh.
Moreover, on Sunday evening, the meteorological department noted the presence of moderate fog in Haryana, Sub-Himalayan regions, West Bengal, and Sikkim. Additionally, isolated areas in Punjab, Jammu Division, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, and Assam experienced shallow fog during the same period.
“Today, Cold day to severe cold day conditions prevailed in most parts of Punjab and Uttar Pradesh; in many parts of Bihar; in some parts of Delhi and Rajasthan. Severe cold day conditions prevailed in most parts of Haryana & Chandigarh,” said the IMD in a post on X.
